The Psalms 88 · Geʽez & English
- Verse 1.
ዘበኣእምሮ ፡ ኤታን ፡ እስራኤላዊ ።
According to the understanding of Ethan the Israelite.
- Verse 2.
ምሕረተከ ፡ እሴብሕ ፡ እግዚኦ ፡ ለዓለም ፤ ወእዜኑ ፡ ጽድቀከ ፡ በአፉየ ፡ ለትውልደ ፡ ትውልድ ።
Your mercy, O Yahweh, I will praise forever; and I will proclaim your righteousness with my mouth to generation after generation.
- Verse 3.
እስመ ፡ ትቤ ፡ ለዓለም ፡ አሐንጽ ፡ ምሕረተ ፤ በሰማይ ፡ ጸንዐ ፡ ጽድቅከ ።
For you have said, “Forever I will build up mercy”; in the heavens your righteousness is established.
- Verse 4.
ኪዳነ ፡ ተካየድኩ ፡ ምስለ ፡ ኅሩያንየ ፤ ወመሐልኩ ፡ ለዳዊት ፡ ገብርየ ።
“I have made a covenant with my chosen ones, and I have sworn to David my servant:
- Verse 5.
ለዓለም ፡ አስተዴሉ ፡ ዘርዐከ ፤ ወአሐንጽ ፡ ለትውልደ ፡ ትውልድ ፡ መንበረከ ።
Forever I will establish your seed, and I will build up your throne to generation after generation.”
- Verse 6.
ይገንያ ፡ ሰማያት ፡ ለስብሐቲከ ፡ እግዚኦ ፤ ወጽድቅከኒ ፡ በማኅበረ ፡ ቅዱሳን ።
The heavens shall confess your glory, O Yahweh, and your righteousness in the assembly of the holy ones.
- Verse 7.
መኑ ፡ ይትዔረዮ ፡ ለእግዚአብሔር ፡ በደመናት ፤ ወመኑ ፡ ይመስሎ ፡ ለእግዚአብሔር ፡ እምደቂቀ ፡ አማልክት ።
For who in the clouds shall be likened to Yahweh, and who among the sons of the mighty shall be compared to Yahweh?
- Verse 8.
እግዚአብሔር ፡ ስቡሕ ፡ በምክረ ፡ ቅዱሳን ፤ ዐቢይ ፡ ወግሩም ፡ ዲበ ፡ ኵሎሙ ፡ እለ ፡ ዐውዱ ።
Yahweh is glorified in the counsel of the holy ones; great is he and terrible above all who are around him.
- Verse 9.
እግዚኦ ፡ አምላከ ፡ ኀያለን ፡ መኑ ፡ ከማከ ፤ ኀያል ፡ እንተ ፡ እግዚኦ ፡ ወጽድቅ ፡ የዐውደከ ።
O Yahweh, God of hosts, who is like you? You are mighty, O Yahweh, and your righteousness is round about you.
- Verse 10.
አንተ ፡ ትኴንን ፡ ኀይለ ፡ ባሕር ፤ ወአንተ ፡ ታረሞ ፡ ለድምፀ ፡ ማዕበላ ።
You rule the power of the sea, and you still the noise of its waves.
- Verse 11.
አንተ ፡ አኅሰርኮ ፡ ለዕቡይ ፡ ከመ ፡ ቅቱል ፤ ወበመዝራዕተ ፡ ኀይልከ ፡ ዘረውኮሙ ፡ ለፀርከ ።
You have humbled the proud one like one slain, and with the arm of your strength you have scattered your enemies.
- Verse 12.
ዚአከ ፡ ውእቱ ፡ ሰማያት ፡ ወእንቲአከ ፡ ይእቲ ፡ ምድር ፤ ወዓለመኒ ፡ በምልኡ ፡ አንተ ፡ ሳረርከ ።
Yours are the heavens, and yours is the earth; the world also in its fullness you have founded.
- Verse 13.
ባሕረ ፡ ወመስዐ ፡ አንተ ፡ ፈጠርከ ። ታቦር ፡ ወአርሞንኤም ፡ በስመ ፡ ዚአከ ፡ ይትፌሥሑ ፡ ወይሴብሑ ፡ ለስምከ ።
The sea and the dry land you have created. Tabor and Hermon shall rejoice in your name, and they shall praise your name.
- Verse 14.
መዝራዕትከ ፡ ምስለ ፡ ኀይል ፤ ጸንዐት ፡ እዴከ ፡ ወተለዐለት ፡ የማንከ ።
Your arm is with might; your hand is strong, and your right hand is exalted.
- Verse 15.
ፍትሕ ፡ ወርትዕ ፡ ተድላ ፡ መንበርከ ፤ ሣህል ፡ ወጽድቅ ፡ የሐውር ፡ ቅድመ ፡ ገጽከ ።
Justice and righteousness are the delight of your throne; mercy and truth go before your face.
- Verse 16.
ብፁዕ ፡ ሕዝብ ፡ ዘያአምር ፡ የብቦ ። እግዚኦ ፡ በብርሃበ ፡ ገጽከ ፡ የሐውሩ ፤
Blessed are the people who know jubilation. O Yahweh, in the light of your face they walk;
- Verse 17.
ወበስምከ ፡ ይትፌሥሑ ፡ ኵሎ ፡ አሚረ ፤ ወበጽድቅከ ፡ ይትሌዐሉ ።
and in your name they rejoice all the day, and in your righteousness they are exalted.
- Verse 18.
እስመ ፡ ምክሐ ፡ ኀይሎሙ ፡ እንተ ፤ ወበሣህልከ ፡ ይትሌዐል ፡ ቀርንነ ።
For you are the glory of their strength, and in your mercy our horn is exalted.
- Verse 19.
እስመ ፡ ዘእግዚአብሔር ፡ ረድኤትነ ፤ ወቅዱሰ ፡ እስራኤል ፡ ንጉሥነ ።
For our help is of Yahweh, and the Holy One of Israel is our king.
- Verse 20.
ውእቱ ፡ አሚረ ፡ ተናገርኮሙ ፡ በራእይ ፡ ለደቂቅከ ፤ ወትቤ ፡ እሬሲ ፡ ረድኤተ ፡ በላዕለ ፡ ኀይል ፡ ወአልዐልኩ ፡ ኅሩየ ፡ እምሕዝብየ ።
Then you spoke in a vision to your children, and you said, “I have set help upon a mighty one, and I have exalted a chosen one out of my people.
- Verse 21.
ወረከብክዎ ፡ ለዳዊት ፡ ገብርየ ፤ ወቀባእክዎ ፡ ቅብአ ፡ ቅዱሰ ።
I have found David my servant, and I have anointed him with holy oil.
- Verse 22.
እስመ ፡ እዴየ ፡ ትረድኦ ፤ ወመዝራዕትየ ፡ ታጸንዖ ።
For my hand shall help him, and my arm shall strengthen him.
- Verse 23.
ኢይብቍዕ ፡ ጸላኢ ፡ በላዕሌሁ ፤ ወውሉድ ፡ ዐመፃ ፡ ኢይደግም ፡ አሕምሞቶ ።
The enemy shall gain no advantage over him, and the son of iniquity shall not again afflict him.
- Verse 24.
ወእምትሮሙ ፡ ለፀሩ ፡ እምቅድመ ፡ ገጹ ፤ ወኣኅስሮሙ ፡ ለጸላእቱ ።
And I will cut down his foes before his face, and I will humble those who hate him.
- Verse 25.
ወሣህልየሰ ፡ ወጽድቅየ ፡ ምስሌሁ ፤ ወበስምየ ፡ ይትሌዐል ፡ ቀርኑ ።
But my mercy and my righteousness shall be with him, and in my name his horn shall be exalted.
- Verse 26.
ወእሠይም ፡ ውስተ ፡ ባሕር ፡ እዴሁ ፤ ወውስተ ፡ አፍላግ ፡ የማኖ ።
And I will set his hand upon the sea, and his right hand upon the rivers.
- Verse 27.
ውእቱ ፡ ይብለኒ ፡ አቡየ ፡ አንተ ፤ አምላኪየ ፡ ወረዳእየ ፡ ወመድኀንየ ።
He shall call to me, “You are my Father, my God, and my helper, and my savior.”
- Verse 28.
ወአነሂ ፡ በኵርየ ፡ እሬስዮ ፤ ወልዑል ፡ እምነገሥተ ፡ ምድር ።
And I, for my part, will make him my firstborn, higher than the kings of the earth.
- Verse 29.
ወለዓለም ፡ አዐቅብ ፡ ሎቱ ፡ ሣህልየ ፤ ወምእመን ፡ ውእቱ ፡ ለኪዳንየ ።
And forever I will keep my mercy for him, and my covenant shall be faithful to him.
- Verse 30.
ወእሬሲ ፡ ዘርዖ ፡ ለዓለመ ፡ ዓለም ፤ ወመንበሮሂ ፡ ከመ ፡ መዋዕለ ፡ ሰማይ ።
And I will establish his seed forever and ever, and his throne like the days of heaven.
- Verse 31.
ወእመሰ ፡ ኀደጉ ፡ ደቂቁ ፡ ሕግየ ፤ ወኢሖሩ ፡ በኵነኔየ ።
But if his children forsake my law, and walk not in my judgment,
- Verse 32.
ወእመሂ ፡ አርኰሱ ፡ ሥርዐትየ ፤ ወኢዐቀቡ ፡ ትእዛዝየ ።
and if they defile my statutes, and keep not my commandments,
- Verse 33.
እዋሕያ ፡ በበትር ፡ ለኀጢአቶሙ ፤ ወበመቅሠፍት ፡ ለአበሳሆሙ ።
I will visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with chastisement.
- Verse 34.
ወሣህልየሰ ፡ ኢይበልእ ፡ እምኔሆሙ ፤ ወኢይዔምፅ ፡ በጸድቅየ ።
But my mercy I will not take away from them, nor will I deal falsely in my righteousness.
- Verse 35.
ወኢያረኵስ ፡ ኪዳንየ ፤ ወኢይሔሱ ፡ ዘወፅአ ፡ እምአፉየ ።
Nor will I defile my covenant, nor alter that which has gone forth from my mouth.
- Verse 36.
ምዕረ ፡ መሐልኩ ፡ በቅዱስየ ፤ ከመ ፡ ለዳዊት ፡ ኢይሔስዎ ።
Once have I sworn by my holiness that I will not lie to David.
- Verse 37.
ወዘርዑሂ ፡ ለዓለም ፡ ይሄሉ ፤ ወመንበሩሂ ፡ ከመ ፡ ፀሐይ ፡ በቅድሜየ ።
And his seed shall endure forever, and his throne like the sun before me.
- Verse 38.
ወሥሩዕ ፡ ከመ ፡ ወርኅ ፡ ለዓለም ፤ ወስምዑሂ ፡ ምእመን ፡ በሰማይ ።
And it is established like the moon forever, and the witness in heaven is faithful.
- Verse 39.
ወአንተሰ ፡ መነንኮ ፡ ወገደፍኮ ፤ ወአናሕሰይኮ ፡ ለመሲሕከ ።
But you have rejected him and cast him off; you have spurned your anointed.
- Verse 40.
ወሜጥከ ፡ ሥርዐቶ ፡ ለገብርከ ፤ ወአርኰስከ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ምድር ፡ መቅደሶ ።
And you have overturned the statute of your servant, and have defiled his sanctuary upon the earth.
- Verse 41.
ወነሠትከ ፡ ኵሎ ፡ ጥቅሞ ፤ ወረሰይከ ፡ አጽዋኒሁ ፡ መፍርሀ ።
And you have pulled down all his walls, and have made his strongholds a terror.
- Verse 42.
ወተማሰጦ ፡ ኵሉ ፡ ኀላፌ ፡ ፍኖት ፤ ወኮነ ፡ ጽእለተ ፡ ለጎሩ ።
And all who pass along the way have plundered him, and he has become a reproach to his neighbors.
- Verse 43.
ወአልዐልከ ፡ የማነ ፡ ፀሩ ፤ ወአስተፈሣሕከ ፡ ኵሎ ፡ ጸላእቱ ።
And you have exalted the right hand of his foes, and have made all his enemies rejoice.
- Verse 44.
ወሜጥከ ፡ ረድኤተ ፡ ኲናቱ ፤ ወኢተወከፍኮ ፡ በውስተ ፡ ፀብእ ።
And you have turned back the help of his sword, and have not upheld him in the battle.
- Verse 45.
ወሰዐርኮ ፡ እምንጽሑ ፤ ወነፃሕከ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ምድር ፡ መንበሮ ።
And you have brought him down from his purity, and have cast his throne down to the earth.
- Verse 46.
ወአውኀድከ ፡ መዋዕለ ፡ መንበሩ ፤ ወሶጥከ ፡ ላዕሌሁ ፡ ኀፍረተ ።
And you have shortened the days of his throne, and have poured shame upon him.
- Verse 47.
እስከ ፡ ማእዜኑ ፡ እግዚኦ ፡ ትትመየጥ ፡ ለግሙራ ፤ ወይነድድ ፡ ከመ ፡ እሳት ፡ መዐትከ ።
How long, O Yahweh, will you turn away utterly, and will your wrath burn like fire?
- Verse 48.
ተዘከር ፡ ምንት ፡ ውእቱ ፡ ኀይልየ ፤ ቦኑ ፡ ለከንቱ ፡ ፈጠርኮ ፡ ለኵሉ ፡ እጓለ ፡ እመሕያው ።
Remember what my substance is; have you created in vain all the children of the living?
- Verse 49.
መኑ ፡ ሰብእ ፡ ዘየሐዩ ፡ ወኢይሬእዮ ፡ ለሞት ፤ ወመኑ ፡ ዘያድኅና ፡ ለነፍሱ ፡ እምእደ ፡ ሲኦል ።
What man is there who shall live and not see death, and who shall deliver his soul from the hand of Sheol?
- Verse 50.
አይቴ ፡ ውእቱ ፡ ዘትካት ፡ ሣህልከ ፡ እግዚኦ ፤ ዘመሐልከ ፡ ለዳዊት ፡ ገብርከ ፡ በጽድቅ ።
Where is your former mercy, O Yahweh, which you swore to David your servant in truth?
- Verse 51.
ተዘከር ፡ እግዚኦ ፡ ዘጸአልዎሙ ፡ ለአግብርቲከ ፤ ዘተወከፍኩ ፡ በሕፅንየ ፡ ብዙኀ ፡ አሕዛብ ።
Remember, O Yahweh, the reproach of your servants, which I have borne in my bosom from many nations,
- Verse 52.
ዘጸአሉ ፡ ጸላእትከ ፡ እግዚኦ ፤ ወጸአሉ ፡ እብሬተ ፡ መሲሕከ ።
with which your enemies have reproached, O Yahweh, and have reproached the recompense of your anointed.
- Verse 53.
ይትባረክ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ለዓለም ፤ ለይኩን ፡ ለይኩን ።
Blessed be Yahweh forever; so be it, so be it.
