1. Verse 1.፩

   ወዝንቱስ ፡ ወልዲ ፡ ሰሙኤል ፡ ሀለወ ፡ ይትለአኮ ፡ ለእግዚአብሔር ፡ ቅድመ ፡ ኤሊ ፡ ካህን ፡ ወክቡር ፡ ውእቱ ፡ ነገረ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ በእማንቱ ፡ መዋዕል ፡ ወአልቦ ፡ ራእይ ፡ ዘይከውን ።

   And this child Samuel was ministering to Yahweh before Eli the priest; and the word of Yahweh was precious in those days, and there was no vision that came [openly].

2. Verse 2.፪

   ወእምዝ ፡ በይእቲ ፡ ዕለት ፡ እንዘ ፡ ይነውም ፡ ኤሊ ፡ ውስተ ፡ መካኑ ፡ ወአዕይንቲሁ ፡ አኃዛ ፡ ይክበዳ ፡ ወአይክል ፡ ይርአይ ።

   And then on that day, while Eli was sleeping in his place — and his eyes had begun to grow heavy [dim], and he could not see —

3. Verse 3.፫

   እምቅድመ ፡ ይጥፋእ ፡ ማኅቶተ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ እምቤተ ፡ መቅደስ ። ወሰሙኤልስ ፡ ይነውም ፡ ውስተ ፡ ቢተ ፡ መቅደስ ፡ ኀበ ፡ ሀሎ ፡ ታቦተ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ።

   before the lamp of Yahweh went out from the temple. And Samuel was sleeping in the temple, where the ark of Yahweh was.

4. Verse 4.፬

   ወጸውዓ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ለሰሙኤል ፡ ወይቤሎ ፡ ሰሙኤል ፡ ሰሙኤል ፡ ወይቤሎ ፡ ነየ ፡ አነ ።

   And Yahweh called Samuel, and he said to him, 'Samuel, Samuel.' And he said, 'Here I am.'

5. Verse 5.፭

   ወሮጸ ፡ ኀበ ፡ ኤሊ ፡ ወይቤሎ ፡ ነየ ፡ አነ ፡ መጻእኩ ፡ እስመ ፡ ጸዋዕከኒ ፡ ወይቤሎ ፡ ኢጸዋዕኩከ ፡ ግባእ ፡ ወስክብ ። ወሐረ ፡ ወስክብ ።

   And he ran to Eli and said to him, 'Here I am, I have come, for you called me.' And he said, 'I did not call you; go back and lie down.' And he went and lay down.

6. Verse 6.፮

   ወደገመ ፡ ዓዲ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ጸውዓዮ ፡ ለሰሙኤል ፡ ወይቤሎ ፡ ሰሙኤል ፡ ሰሙኤል ። ወተንሥአ ፡ ሰሙኤል ፡ ወሐረ ፡ ኀበ ፡ ኤሊ ፡ ወይቤ ፡ ነየ ፡ መጻእኩ ፡ እስመ ፡ ጸዋዕኮኒ ፡ ወይቤ ፡ ኢጸዋዕኩከ ፡ ወልድየ ፡ ግባእ ፡ ወስክብ ።

   And Yahweh called Samuel yet again, and said to him, 'Samuel, Samuel.' And Samuel arose and went to Eli and said, 'Here I am, I have come, for you called me.' And he said, 'I did not call you, my son; go back and lie down.'

7. Verse 7.፯

   ወሰሙኤልስ ፡ ዓዲሁ ፡ ኢያእምሮ ፡ ለእግዚአብሔር ፡ እምቅድመ ፡ ዘ ፡ ወአትከሠተ ፡ ሎቱ ፡ ቃለ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ።

   And Samuel did not yet know Yahweh, before [this], and the word of Yahweh had not [yet] been revealed to him.

8. Verse 8.፰

   ወጸውዓ ፡ ዓዲ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ሳሙኤል ፡ ሥልስ ፡ ወተንሥአ ፡ ወሐረ ፡ ኀበ ፡ ኤሊ ፡ ወይቤሎ ፡ ነየ ፡ መጻእኩ ፡ እስመ ፡ ጸዋዕኮኒ ፡ ወሀለየ ፡ ኤሊ ፡ ከመ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ጸውዓ ፡ ለውእቱ ፡ ወልድ ።

   And Yahweh called Samuel yet again, a third time; and he arose and went to Eli and said to him, 'Here I am, I have come, for you called me.' And Eli understood that Yahweh was calling that child.

9. Verse 9.፱

   ወይቤሎ ፡ ኤሊ ፡ ለሳሙኤል ፡ ግባእ ፡ ክብ ፡ ወልድየ ፡ እምዘ ፡ ዘ ፡ ጸውዓከ ፡ በል ፡ እግዚእየ ፡ በል ፡ ቃልስ ፡ ወንግርኒ ፡ እስመ ፡ ይስምዓክ ፡ ገብርከ ።

   And Eli said to Samuel, 'Go back, lie down, my son; and if [one] calls you [again], say, "Speak, my lord, [and let your word be], and tell me," for your servant is listening.'

10. Verse 10.፲

    ወሐረ ፡ ሳሙኤል ፡ ወስክብ ፡ ውስተ ፡ መካኑ ። ወመጽአ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ወቆመ ፡ ወጸውዖ ፡ ከመ ፡ ቀዲሚ ፡ ወይቤሎ ፡ ሳሙኤል ፡ ሳሙኤል ፡ በል ፡ እግዚእየ ፡ እስመ ፡ ይስምዓክ ፡ ገብርከ ።

    And Samuel went and lay down in his place. And Yahweh came and stood and called him as before, and said, 'Samuel, Samuel.' [And he] said, 'Speak, my lord, for your servant is listening.'

11. Verse 11.፲፩

    ወይቤሎ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ለሰሙኤል ፡ ናሁ ፡ አነ ፡ እገብር ፡ ቃልየ ፡ ዘነበብኩ ፡ ሳዕለ ፡ እስራኤል ፡ ከመ ፡ ሾሉ ፡ ዘሰምዓ ፡ ይእናዝ ፡ ክልኤሆን ፡ እዘኒሁ ።

    And Yahweh said to Samuel, 'Behold, I am about to do my word which I have spoken concerning Israel, so that everyone who hears it, both his ears will [tingle / ring].

12. Verse 12.፲፪

    ወበይእቲ ፡ ዕለት ፡ አቀውም ፡ ሾሉ ፡ ዘነበብኩ ፡ ሳዕለ ፡ ኤሊ ፡ ወሳዕለ ፡ ቤቱ ፡ እእናዝኒ ።

    And on that day I will carry out against Eli all that I have spoken concerning him and concerning his house, [from beginning] to end.

13. Verse 13.፲፫

    ወእራጽም ፡ ወዜነውክዎ ፡ ክመ ፡ እትበቀሎ ፡ አነ ፡ ለቤቱ ፡ እስከ ፡ ለዓለም ፡ በኃጢአት ፡ ደቂቁ ፡ እስመ ፡ አሐሰሙ ፡ ቃለ ፡ ሳዕለ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ደቂቁ ፡ ወኢገሠጾሙ ።

    And I [have made it known] and declared to him that I will take vengeance on his house forever, because of the sin of his sons; for his sons spoke evil [blasphemy] against Yahweh, and he did not rebuke them.

14. Verse 14.፲፬

    አኮኑ ፡ ከመ ፡ ግዘመሐልኩ ፡ ለቤቱ ፡ ኤሊ ፡ ከመ ፡ ኢይደመስስ ፡ ኃጢአት ፡ ወኃጢእት ፡ ቤቱ ፡ ኤሊ ፡ ኢበዕጣን ፡ ወኢበመሥዋዕት ፡ እስከ ፡ ለዓለም ።

    [Is it not] that I have sworn to the house of Eli, that the sin and the iniquity of the house of Eli shall not be wiped away, neither by incense nor by sacrifice, forever?'

15. Verse 15.፲፭

    ወእምዝ ፡ ስብሕ ፡ ሳሙኤል ፡ እስከ ፡ ጸብሐ ፡ ወአርኆወ ፡ ኆኃተ ፡ ቤተ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ወፈርሐ ፡ ሳሙኤል ፡ ከመ ፡ ያይድዓ ፡ ለኤሊ ፡ ዘአስተርአየ ።

    And then Samuel [lay / slept] until morning, and he opened the doors of the house of Yahweh; and Samuel was afraid to tell Eli the vision.

16. Verse 16.፲፮

    ወጸውዓ ፡ ኤሊ ፡ ለሳሙኤል ፡ ወይቤ ፡ ወልድየ ፡ ሳሙኤል ፡ ወይቤሎ ፡ ነየ ፡ አነ ።

    And Eli called Samuel and said, 'My son Samuel.' And he said to him, 'Here I am.'

17. Verse 17.፲፯

    ወይቤሎ ፡ ምንትኑ ፡ ነገሩ ፡ ዘነገርከ ፡ እትሣባእ ፡ እምኔየ ፡ ከመዝ ፡ ለይሬሲ ፡ ክ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ወከመግዘ ፡ ለትምጻእክ ፡ ለስእመ ፡ ህባእ ፡ ክ ፡ እምኔየ ፡ ቃለ ፡ እምኒ ፡ ኵሉ ፡ ዘነገሩክ ።

    And he said, 'What is the word that [he] spoke to you? Do not hide it from me; so may [God] do to you, and more also, if you hide from me a word of all that [he] told you.'

18. Verse 18.፲፰

    ወስማዕከ ፡ ወአይድዓ ፡ ሳሙኤል ፡ ኵሉ ፡ ነገረ ፡ ወአልቦ ፡ ዘኀብአ ፡ እምኔሁ ፡ ወይቤ ፡ ኤሊ ፡ ይገብር ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ኵሉ ፡ ዘአዲም ፡ ሎቱ ።

    And Samuel told [him], and made known to Eli all the words, and hid nothing from him. And Eli said, 'It is Yahweh; let him do all that is good in his sight.'

19. Verse 19.፲፱

    ወዓብየ ፡ ሳሙኤል ፡ ወእግዚአብሔር ፡ ሀሎ ፡ ምስሌሁ ፡ ወእልቦ ፡ ዘወድቀ ፡ እምኵሉ ፡ ቃሉ ፡ ቃሉ ፡ ወወድቀ ፡ ውስተ ፡ ምድር ።

    And Samuel grew, and Yahweh was with him; and none of his words fell [to the ground], not one of his words fell to the ground.

20. Verse 20.፳

    ወእመሩ ፡ ኵሉ ፡ እስራኤል ፡ እምዳን ፡ እስከ ፡ ቤርሳቤሔ ፡ ከመ ፡ እመን ፡ ሳሙኤል ፡ ነቢ ፡ ይለእግዚአብሔር ።

    And all Israel knew, from Dan to Beersheba, that Samuel was [established as] a prophet to Yahweh.

21. Verse 21.፳፩

    ወደገመ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ አርእዮ ፡ በሴሎም ፡ ከመ ፡ አስተርአየ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ለሳሙኤል ፡ በቃለ ፡ እግዚአብሔር ፡ ወተስምዓ ፡ ቃለ ፡ ሳሙኤል ፡ ውስተ ፡ ሾሉ ፡ እስራኤል ።

    And Yahweh appeared again at Shiloh, for Yahweh revealed himself to Samuel by the word of Yahweh; and the word of Samuel was heard throughout all Israel.
